The reports of Vijay starring in the remake of Rajinikanth's "Mannan" have turned out to be false. Instead, Prabhu, who runs Sivaji Productions, has clarified that they do not have any plans to remake the yesteryear blockbuster.

Prabhu has reportedly said that he wonders where such rumours come from and denied any plans of "Mannan" remake. There were reports on Tuesday, 15 December, that Rajinikanth's film will be remade with Vijay stepping into the shoes of the superstar.

It was earlier being said that Sivaji Productions, which had made the blockbuster, was remaking the film and the production house had assigned the responsibility of directing the film to ace filmmaker KS Ravikumar.

"Mannan", directed by P Vasu, featured Vijayashanti and Kushboo in the female lead roles. The film is said to be a remake of Kannada blockbuster "Anuraga Aralithu" starring late Kannada icon Dr Rajkumar. Madhavi and Geetha played the female lead roles in the film directed by MS Rajshekar.

The Telugu version, titled "Gharana Mogudu", starred Megastar Chiranjeevi, Nagma and Vani Vishwanath in the lead roles. The film was also remade in Bollywood as "Laadla" starring Anil Kapoor, Sridevi and Raveena Tandon.

For now, Vijay is busy with his next film "Theri". A major part of the shooting has been completed with only songs left to be shot. The film's unit will be travelling abroad early next year to shoot the tracks on Illayathalapathy, Amy Jackson and Samantha.

"Theri" is directed by Atlee Kumar of "Raja Rani" fame and Vijay plays the role of a cop. It is not just the story of good cop vs baddies but the story also has a fresh approach with lots of emotions connected to the hero and other cast members.

The film will appear before the audience in March 2016.
