The opposition AIADMK has urged the ruling AINRC Government to convene a special session of the Puducherry Assembly so that MLAs could bring to the notice of the government the difficulties faced by people in rain ravaged areas in Puducherry and Karaikal regions.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, Deputy Legislature party leader A. Anbalagan said the government had failed to make proper assessment of the damage and flood-affected and there were several deficiencies in the implementation of relief measures.

The government should immediately convene a special session of the Assembly so that MLAs could place before the government the difficulties faced by people in rain-ravaged areas and provide suggestions for smooth implementation of relief measures.

Mr. Anbalagan also demanded the government to disburse the rain relief amount of Rs. 4,000 through anganwadis instead of banks.

A majority of the cardholders were not having bank accounts and there were also cases of families not having Aadhaar card.

People receiving old age pension through banks had expressed their difficulty and hence the disbursement of rain relief should be done only through anganwadi centres, he said.
