BLO booked, 37 others warned for dereliction of duty

NOIDA: The district administration on Saturday registered an FIR against a Booth Level Officer (BLO) for dereliction of duty in the revision and correction of electoral rolls. N P Singh, district magistrate, said that a case was registered against the sector officer in Jewar while 37 other BLOs were issued warning. “The revision of electoral rolls before UP assembly election is a priority.
The officials must work honestly,” he said.
The move comes after some local people complained that there had not received their voter identity cards. Some residents also complained of spelling mistakes in their voter i-cards.
BLOs are supposed to make a thorough study of roll and to make frequent field visits to the villages and sectors to interact with the local people. They are assigned to review claims and objections, make house to house visit and checking of overlapping, migration, transfer, shifting of voters. “The BLOs are supposed to check the details of spelling, entries of duplicate names. They are also assigned distribution of voter identity cards. I applied for a voter i-card six months ago but have not received the card yet,” said Mohit Kumar, a resident of Alpha I in Greater Noida.
The district magistrate said that strict action will be taken against officials for dereliction of duty. The administration has also launched a drive for revision of electoral rolls. The booth level officers have been asked to make corrections for an error free electoral rolls. People can apply for corrections by December 22. All the claims and requests for correction shall be disposed of by December 30, 2015.
The updated electoral rolls will be published on January 5. The district magistrate urged people to register themselves online for voter’s registration identity card which is user friendly. People can register themselves on www.ceouttarpradesh.nic.in. People can also request for correction in name, address and other credentials online. Noida has a total of 5,20,775 registered voters.
To enhance participation by recognized political parties, the Election Commission had asked them to appoint one Booth Level Agent (BLA) for roll revision and to complement the BLOs. However, except BSP, no other political party showed interest and not appointed BLAs at each booth in Noida.
