Two Patidar youths have been arrested for alleged offensive posts against former state minister Dilip Sanghani on Facebook, Amreli police said Friday.

The alleged remarks were posted on the Facebook page of Sanghani’s distant relative Gatu Ramani on December 3, a day after BJP suffered heavy defeat in the district and the taluka panchayat polls in Amreli. The “offensive” comments were made after Ramani uploaded a photograph of the former Agriculture minister on his Facebook page.

While Hitendra alias Hitu Patel, who runs an embroidery unit at Katargam in Surat, was picked up Thursday night by Surat crime branch, Jitu Nashit was arrested Friday afternoon by Jamnagar police from Kalavad. Both have been handed over to police in Amreli. Hitesh Dudhat, Feroz Bhatti, Nikunj Dobariya, H P Sanghani and Sanjay Rupapara, also named in the complaint, are yet to be arrested.
The seven, all friends on Facebook with Ramani, have been booked under Section 66 (A) and (B) of the Information Technology Act, 2003, and Section 504 of the IPC for intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace. The complaint was filed by Ramani’s cousin Kamlesh Sanghani, nephew of the BJP leader.

“Gatu Ramani in good faith had uploaded the photo of Dilip Sanghani on his Facebook page on December 3. Some of his friends put objectionable comments on it… We have arrested two youths in this connection, while search for the rest is on,” said inspector Pravin Chaudhary.
