New ACJ Phakade Primary School to Open Its Doors In 2016

The new ACJ Phakade Primary School in Nomzamo near Strand will open its doors in the 2016 academic year.

This R37 million project was commissioned by the Department of Transport and Public Works for the Western Cape Education Department. Construction began in January 2014 and most of the facility reached practical completion in November 2015.

The new school will be able to accommodate 1 250 learners who have been using temporary classrooms on the site.

Completed Facilities

  • Two Grade R classrooms with enclosed playing areas and facilities.
  • Junior block with 10 classrooms, including a music room, media centre, computer laboratory and a handwork room.
  • Ten intermediate phase and eight senior phase classrooms.
  • Administrative building,
  • Kitchen.
  • Garden store.
  • Caretaker’s facilities.

Care has been taken to ensure that all classrooms have natural light and that they are adequately ventilated. The intermediate and senior blocks each have two levels.

The school hall and sports field are still under construction and are expected to be completed in May 2016.
