Zuma: SA has lost a familiar voice and face in the arts industry

President Jacob Zuma on Sunday expressed his “deepest condolences on the sad passing of veteran actor Shadrack Ngema”.

A statement said Ngema was “much loved for his skilful performance in the SABC1 drama Emzini Wezinsizwa‚ where he played the part of a traditional healer‚ Magubane”.

The statement also noted that “a few weeks ago‚ his colleague Roland Mqwebu‚ who starred as Mkhize in the drama‚ also passed away”.

“South Africa has lost a familiar voice and face in the arts industry. He was a very talented and popular actor and comedian who brought laughter and joy to our people. He will be sorely missed‚” Zuma said.

“We wish to convey our deepest condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace.”

Ngema died in hospital on Saturday‚ reportedly from heart-related problems.
