Department of Computer Applications, A.V.C College of Engineering, organised a faculty development programme on ‘Soft Computing – CS6012.’ K. Karthikeyan, Secretary, inaugurated the programme. C. Sundar Raj, Principal, presided. R. Sivakumar, Head, Department of Computer Science, A.V.V.M Sri Pushpam College, was the special guest.

Pat for scholar

A. Sivachandiran, Research Scholar, Department of Marine Science, Bharathidasan University, who is pursuing doctoral research on climate change under the guidance of V. Yoganandan, presented a research paper at LIVAR-ICTP workshop on Decadal Climate Variability and Predictability held in Italy. According to a press release from the university, Mr. Sivachandiran’s paper received high acclamation and was presented with a certificate of appreciation. The workshop was organised by the World Climate Research Programme, PAGES, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Institute of Environment, Energy and Sustainability. V. M. Muthukumar, Vice-Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, felicitated Mr. Sivachandiran in the presence of P. Santhanam, Head (in-charge), Department of Marine Science, and Dr. Yoganandan.

Football tournament

J.J. College of Engineering and Technology was declared winner of the Anna University inter-zonal football tournament for men by the spin of coin after rain forced abandonment of the finals against Jeppiaar Engineering College. J.J. College of Engineering and Technology has won the title for the third successive year.

Seminar

A state-level seminar on Historical events in Indian education was organised under the auspices of Venkatesvara College of Education in Pudukottai. J. Sujatha Malini, Assistant Professor and Coordinator for Special Education Programme, Alagappa University College of Education, stressed the importance of education for gaining perfection in all spheres. She advised the students to update and hone their professional skills. She gave away certificates to the students.

Workshop

Faculty members from eight departments of M.A.M. College of Engineering participated in the WIPRO Mission10X faculty empowerment workshop, an initiative of WIPRO, aimed at empowering engineering faculty towards producing employable graduates. Bhuvan Sudar from WIPRO was the resource person. The three-day workshop included activity based sessions. Mohamed Nizam, secretary, U. Sarvodayaparan, director, and S. Ravimaran, Principal, spoke.

e-learning highlighted

Gopinath Ganapathy, Chair, School of Computer Science, Engineering and Applications, Bharathidasan University, highlighted the importance of e-learning while speaking at the international conference on Advanced Computing, organised by Department of Computer Science, Jamal Mohamed College, under UGC grant. He said young researchers are the architect of future technologies. A.K. Khaja Nazeemudeen, secretary and correspondent, Jamal Mohamed College, released the international journal of Applied Engineering Research. K.A. Khaleel Ahamed, treasurer, received the first copy. S. Mohamed Salique, Principal, presided.

Experts delivered technical lectures and shared their knowledge and experience. Over 250 faculty members, research scholars and students from various universities and colleges from India and abroad participated. Mr. Khaja Nazeemudeen distributed certificates to the participants.

Seminar on biodiversity

The Department of Zoology, Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College organised a UGC sponsored seminar on biodiversity. V. Gokula, Associate Professor, Department of Zoology, National College, spoke on “Biodiversity of India” and R. Mohanraj, Head, Department of Environmental Management, Bharathidasan University, spoke on “Ecosystem and Biodiversity of Western Ghats: how important to the peninsular India.” M. Jayanthi, Principal, and M. Manimegalai, Head, Department of Zoology, were present.

Graduation day

Syed Moideen, Joint Director, Health Services, Pudukottai District, highlighted the essential attributes for nurses in his graduation day address at Mount Zion College of Nursing, Pudukottai. A total of 30 candidates received their degrees. Jayabarathan Chelliah, chairman, Mount Zion Educational Institutions, presided. Florence Jayabarathan, vice-chair person, Jayson K. Jayabarathan, director of the college, and Jasmine Sheela, Principal, were present. Jonathan Keith Moses received the Best Outgoing Student Award and Pastor Joseph Pratap Singh Masillamani Scholarship. Anni Merlin received the class topper award and got the Andrew Chelliah Scholarship.
