A four-year-old boy drowned in a pit filled with rainwater at a BBMP-owned fenced vacant plot in Kalasipalya on Friday.

The deceased, identified as Manoj, was the youngest of seven siblings, said the police. His father Suresh is a mechanic who resides in Vinoba Nagar.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon when Manoj and other neighbourhood children crawled under the fence to enter the land. The boy left the group to catch frogs in the water pit, the police added.

The incident came to light around 4.30 p.m. when a neighbour saw the body.

The Kalasipalya police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating it.
