17 gamblers arrested in Srinagar: Police

Three gamblers were Saturday afternoon arrested by police in Veer Chattabal and recovered stake money from them.SDPO MR Ganj, Mohammad Yousuf, told KNS that the gamblers identified as Reyaz Ahmad Shagloo of Arampora, Qamarwari, Abdul Rashid Dar of Rampora, Hilal Ahmad Dar of Veer Chattabal were arrested while gambling with playing cards and stake money of Rs 7200 were recovered on the spot.He said that two more gamblers, Bilal Ahmad Bhat alias Babloo and Aka of Veer Chattabal ran away from the spot.The police officer said four more gamblers arrested near Cement Kadal in Qamarwari and Rs 2600 stake money was seized from them.

Meanwhile, in two other raids police arrested twelve gamblers and recovered stake money of Rs 56,200 from the gambling spots.A police spokesman said in its continuous drive against gambling and other social evils, police parties from Police Station Nowhata and Khanyar under the supervision of SDPO Khanyar Mir Ejaz conducted two raids near Islamia College and Nowpora.“Twelve gamblers were arrested. Nine of them were arrested at Hawal with stake money of Rs. 47640 and three at Nowpora with stake money of Rs. 8560,” the spokesman said, adding, police has registered two cases FIR number 105/2015 and 79/2015 under section 13 Gambling act at Police Station Nowhata and Khanyar respectively.
