New Delhi, Dec 5: The CBI team will have to put on a fresh set of thinking caps as they have not managed to elicit any information from Dayanidhi Maran, the former union telecom minister who is being questioned in connection with the telephone exchange scam.

Maran who will be questioned for a period of six days will not be arrested as per a directive of the Supreme Court. Saturday, Dec 5 will be the last day of questioning and if the CBI wants to further this probe, then they will have to approach the Supreme Court again.

CBI gets nothing out of Dayanidhi Maran

I have nothing to do with the scam says Maran

Maran has been evasive says a CBI officer part of the investigation. The allegation against him is that when he was telecom minister, he had ensured that 764 telephone lines were set up at his home in Chennai which had benefitted his brother's Sun TV group.

Maran however made it clear that he was entitled to have free connections as minister and these were not used to benefit the Sun TV group.

He also told the CBI he never had 764 connections at his home. As telecom minister, I was entitled for these lines and they were used for official purposes only, Maran also told the CBI team. All allegations being made against me are baseless, Maran also told the CBI officials.

CBI will seek police custody

After questioning Maran today, the CBI is likely to go back to the Supreme Court and seek his police custody. He is not cooperating and has been evasive, the CBI official said while stating that they would knock on the doors of the Supreme Court seeking his police custody.

We feel that we can get more information if he is questioned in police custody, the CBI officer added. At this rate the probe will go nowhere and already a considerable amount of time has been spent on this case, the officer added. It is time that the final report in the case is filed and hence we will need his custody, the officer also added.
