SC declines plea seeking Salman Khan's bail cancellation in 2002 hit-and-run case

Sushila Himmatrao Patil, mother of Ravinder Patil, a police constable who was Salman Khan's bodyguard at the time when the 2002 accident took place, prayed to the apex court that she be made a party in the case and also challenged Salman Khan's bail.

The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a petition seeking cancellation of bail granted to Bollywood actor Salman Khan in 2002 hit-and-run case by the Bombay High Court.

The petition was filed by Sushila Himmatrao Patil, mother of Ravinder Patil, a police constable who was Salman Khan's bodyguard at the time when the 2002 accident took place. Patil died in 2007. In her petition, Sushila prayed to the apex court that she be made a party in the case and also challenged Salman's bail.

According to the prosecution, Salman's white Toyota Land Cruiser ran over men sleeping on a pavement in suburban Bandra on September 28, 2002.

On May 6, the sessions court convicted Salman Khan of culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the hit-and-run case that left one person dead and four injured and sentenced him to undergo five years' jail term. Justice A R Joshi of the Bombay High Court is hearing the actor's appeal against the conviction on a daily basis.
