KANPUR: A delegation of Kanpur Lawyers Forum met with Union law minister D V Sadanand Gauda in New Delhi on Thursday and drew his attention towards the selection of eligible and deserving young advocates of the district in higher judicial services.
The delegation, led by advocate Surendra Pratap Singh who is former president of Kanpur Bar Association, apprised the Union minister that though the government had made amendments time to time in Advocates Act, it did not pay any attention on constitution of state Bar councils.

For example, the UP Bar Council had 25 members selected from nine districts only while there were 75 districts in UP. And election of UP Bar Council members was of state level.
This shows that there was no representation of remaining 66 districts, members of the delegation informed.
The delegation demanded that instead of state Bar councils, commissionary Bar councils should be constituted and brought in practice as it would give proper representation to all districts.
The delegation also met Manan Kumar Mishra, chairman of the All India Bar Council, and urged to enhance the financial assistance to ‘incapable’ advocates and kin of deceased advocates upto Rs 1 and Rs 5 lakhs respectively.
Members of the delegation were Surendra Pratap Singh, JN Paras, Satya Prakash Srivastava, Sarvesh Kushwaha, Kailash Shukla Dr Pawan Tiwari, Jitendra Singh Bhadoria , B B Chandel, Manuraj Singh and Raghubeer Sharan.
