For long, the curve at the road leading to Nanjangud near Gun House Imperial in Mysuru used to be a blind spot, causing several mishaps. Though the authorities converted a portion of the road near the blind spot into a one-way, accidents continue to take place as motorists entering the city often flouted the rule.
Approval
But, with the Public Works Department getting approval for converting the stretch of Bengaluru-Niligiri Road from the blind spot to the truck terminal to a double road, the authorities hope that the curve will be straightened.
Conversion
“We will convert the stretch into a double road to ensure smooth flow of traffic and develop a double road between Hardinge Circle and Sanskrit Pathashala,” a PWD official said.
“When we will take up road-widening, the curve of the road near Gun House Imperial will be straightened,” the official added. Now, the National Highways Authority of India is upgrading a stretch of Bengaluru Nilgiri Road or NH 212, into a four-lane road. But, the road takes a deviation towards Race Course near the truck terminal.
Continuity
“The double road we are laying from Gun House circle to truck terminal will ensure continuity,” the official added.
