Farmer commits suicide in Maddur village

A farmer, identified by the police as L. Madhukar (40) from Valagerehalli in Maddur taluk, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence on Thursday morning owing to financial distress.

According to Maddur police, the deceased was owning half-an-acre of land and had borrowed around Rs. 2 lakh from banks and private persons for agricultural activities. He was depressed as he was unable to repay the loan owing to crop failure and therefore took the extreme step, the police quoted his family members as saying.

The police have registered a complaint of unnatural death.
