Lightning kills five in Uttar Pradesh

Five persons, including a woman, were killed and three injured after being struck by lightning in Banda, Kaushambi and Rae Bareli districts of Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Thursday.

Three persons, including a woman, were killed after being struck by lightning in two villages of Banda, the officials said.

Bhola Devi (60) was killed and her relative Chunia received burns in lightning strike while working in their agriculture field at Ahar village under Baberu police station area on Wednesday , while Raju (12) and Lavlesh (19) were killed in Rampurwa village.

A 40-year-old farmer, Jagatpal Raidas, died on spot when lightning struck him on Wednesday. He was working in his field at Malak Pinjari village in Manjhanpur area of Kaushambi when the incident occurred, they said.

Similarly, in Rae Bareli, Rajjan, Amritlal and Suni Kumar were working in field at Sikandarpur village in Jagatpur area y when lightning struck them. While 22-year-old Rajjan died on the spot, the other two were admitted to hospital, where their condition was stated to be stable. PTI
