December 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 24, 2016 01:34 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Regretting that today’s mainstream cinema has been spoiling the youth, Finance Minister Etala Rajender said that good cinema, the kind that filmmakers such as B. Narsing Rao were known for, is the need of the hour.

What society needed today is a blend of human values, Indian culture and philosophy and being a powerful medium, cinema should drive home this message more effectively to people, he said.

Development was the fundamental principle of the Constitution and the ultimate objective of the Indian Constitution would fructify only when all the sections of society would be treated equally.

Mr. Etala Rajender was speaking at the 30{+t}{+h}foundation day celebrations of the Potti Sriramulu Telugu University after giving away a Lifetime Achievement Award to filmmaker Mr. Narsing Rao in the presence of the varsity’s Vice-Chancellor Elluri Siva Reddy.

Referring to the yeoman services that universities rendered in the field of education, the Minister described them as ‘modern-day temples’.

Graciously acknowledging the award, Mr. Rao said it was 50 years since his journey in the world of art began as filmmaker, poet and writer. Describing it as an enriching experience climbing one step after the other, he said that for anyone life is a long learning process, and that he was a willing student.

“My films and poetry have predominantly revolved around the socio-political sphere, with messages aimed at betterment of society. Till my last breath, my life will revolve around art in its myriad forms,” he said.

Others present included Registrar K. Thomasayya, legislator Rasamayi Balkishan, who also participated in the function as a guest, was felicitated.

Earlier, he enthralled the audience with his literary renditions.
