City club management to abolish permanent director posts
AHMEDABAD: The management of Karnavati Club is set to abolish the permanent directorship accorded to four persons since 2004 and hold elections for all the seats of the board by March 2016. The elections will be held for 23 seats of the 30-member board as polls were held for seven seats earlier this year. The decision to abolish posts of permanent director comes one week after Dinesh Rawal proposed to withdraw the suit following which city civil court had stayed elections on nine seats three years ago.
The four permanent direc tors in the club are Girish Dani (immediate past president), Narsinh Patel (brother of current club president), Trilok Parikh and Bhalabhai Patel (founding members).
N G Patel, president of the club, said, “We want to do away with the post of permanent directors. We are taking help of our legal advisor. In the next board meeting, we will take up this issue. Once approved, extraordinary annual general meeting (AGM) will be called. The decision taken in AGM will be conveyed to registrar of companies.“
Trilok Parikh, one of the permanent directors, said, “I along with Bhalabhai and Narsinh have decided to give up our permanent directorship. Being the founding member, I had done away with this permanent directorship in 1994 but it was reintroduced by Girish Dani in 2004.“
In the elections held in August this year, all the seven candidates of Members Power Panel (MMP) defeated candidates of Dani's panel.Thereafter, Girish Dani resigned from the post of president after 15 years of rule. This came after his panel was wiped out in Rajpath Club elections in March this year by MMP .
On the other hand, ever since N G Patel took over as president, club's board has taken several member-friendly decisions.
I will not contest: Girish Dani
When asked about the club's decision to do away with permanent directorship, Girish Dani, immediate past president, said, “I am not sure if it is possible to do this as it may require changes in the club's rules. However, I am not an expert on this procedure.“
When asked if the post is removed, will he contest as candidate for club elections, Dani said, “I will not contest any elections now.“
