MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Ecuador intends to continue strengthening its positions on the Russian agricultural market conquered after introduction of a Russian food embargo on imports from the European Union, the country's trade mission in Moscow told Sputnik on Tuesday.

"We are almost at the final stage of negotiations and expect that no later than next year we will be able to export milk products [to Russia]," the mission said.

According to the trade representatives, Ecuador managed to benefit from the embargo on the European products introduced by Russia.

"Right after the sanctions have been imposed on Europe, we increased exports of frozen products, especially broccoli," the mission pointed out, adding that exports of seafood increased as well.

In 2014, Moscow introduced a one-year import ban on selected food products from the European Union, the United States and their allies, which imposed economic sanctions against Russia over the Ukrainian conflict. Russia's food imports embargo has been extended for another year.
