Pau Gasol and the Chicago Bulls won a close affair, 92-89 against the visiting San Antonio Spurs on Monday (Tuesday in Australia). Gasol led his team in scoring and rebounding with a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds and added 3 blocked shots to give the Bulls a 6-1 record at home so far this season.

Four starters plus another off the bench scored in double figures for the Bulls. Jimmy Butler had 14 points while Tony Snell and Derrick Rose added 11 points apiece. Reserve Doug McDermott added 12 points while Joakim Noah finished with 8 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists.

The Spurs had a five-game winning streak entering the game and had a chance to send the game into overtime but star forward Kawhi Leonard missed a three-pointer with four seconds to go. Leonard finished with 25 points to lead his team while LaMarcus Aldridge added 21 points and 12 rebounds.

The Spurs trailed the Bulls, 85-80 halfway into the fourth but the Texas team unleashed a 6-0 blast to grab the lead with 4:03 to go in the game. The Bulls were steady at the free throw line late and it was key in holding off the Spurs at crunchtime.

The Spurs shot just 2-of-14 from the three-point area in this game. Leonard missed all of his three shots from behind the arc while starting shooting guard Danny Green was 1-of-5 from three.

The Bulls continue their four-game home stand with games against the Denver Nuggets, Charlotte Hornets and Phoenix Suns in their next three games. The Spurs go on a back-to-back set against the Milwaukee Bucks and Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
