Yechury’s speech

When read together, the Editorial and the article, “ >What is this Constitution Day, Sir ?” (both Nov.30) are the complete answer to the Home Minister’s statement that the idea of socialism and secularism were injected into the Constitution through the 42nd Amendment, almost implying it to be an afterthought and of secularism being a much misunderstood idea. In short, secularism and socialism are what spell out the equality of all citizens.

The plurality of religions existed well before Independence. Unless all Indians experience a secular and safe social environment, no development can take place. The Prime Minister must follow up on his declaration of the Constitution being the only holy book.
