Chief Minister praises the sole IGNITE award winner from Gujarat

Chief Minister Mrs Anandiben Patel today praised the sole winner from Gujarat among the 41 children from 18 states for a total of 31 innovations who were handed over Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE awards 2015 by president Pranab Mukherjee here today.

She also praised the farmer friendly innovations like Solar pulse thresher, solar seeder and foldable hand cart and said that her government was ready to help commercialize the innovation for the larger interest of the farmer community.

The only winner from Gujarat Jayprakash B Rathwa, a class 12 student of Shree Gram Shala of Amarpur in Gandhinagar has innovated a foot operated door opening machine.

He said that the idea behind the innovation was to have s system using which a door cab be opened by activating a sensor using a leg which may be useful for the physically disabled or someone carrying load in both hands.

Tamilnadu was the state with maximum five children getting the award while Punjab and Orissa with four each were second in this regard. Three students form Sikkim were among the award winners while two children each from Tripura, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal also won the award.

Innovations like hand rest for fractured hands, Alerting system for bus drivers, looms for physically challenged, gas lighter with gas leak alarm, passcode based locking system in gas stove, color coded thermometer, smart walking stick, stress monitoring mechanism in animals, low cost grass cutter and soundproof hammer were created by the winners and were also displayed in an exhibition in the IIM-A premises.

The Chief Minister on the occasion said , ‘“This year’s IGNITE awards is a befitting tribute to Dr. Kalam’s legacy with his name added to it. There is no dearth of talent among the youth of this country. When I saw the list of award winners, I observed that a majority are from the rural areas. I am also very happy to see that there was one award winning child from Gujarat.’
