KUALA LUMPUR: Do not believe everything that is posted on social media, Umno education bureau chairman Tan Sri Dr. Ibrahim Shah Abu Shah said today.
"Even if a person is educated, if he or she fails to use it (social media) correctly, it can create problems in society.
"Students should be able to think based on facts and research and not based on half cooked views or myths," he said during a press conference to announce details on the National Student Leadership Conference (Pemanas) 2015 to be held at the Putra World Trade Center from Dec 3 to 6.
Ibrahim said the inability of students to have a clear understanding of the nation's current political situation could damage the country's future.
"In today's world, students are easily influenced by social media postings.
"They (students) are the architects of society, they are the ones who will steer the path of this nation, and they are also responsible to bring this country to a higher level," he said after announcing details on the 3rd edition of Pemanas.
Ibrahim said Umno hopes the conference would help shape the mindset of students to verify news they see on social media.
Speakers at the conference include 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) president Arul Kanda Kandasamy and International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.
