Passenger caught with explosives at Vadodara airport

The city police were on their toes after light explosives were recovered from the baggage of a passenger at the city airport on Sunday morning. The airport officials re covered five battery-opera ted fireworks from Delhi resident Raghav Sharma, who was to board an Indigo flight between Vadodara and Del hi at around 7 am.

VADODARA: The city police were on their toes after light explosives were recovered from the baggage of a passenger at the city airport on Sunday morning. The airport officials re covered five battery-opera ted fireworks from Delhi resident Raghav Sharma, who was to board an Indigo flight between Vadodara and Del hi at around 7 am.
The fireworks were spot ted while screening Sharma's baggage.
Upon finding the fireworks, Sharma tried to dispose them at a nearby dustbin. However, he was spotted by the airport guards, who detained him on suspicions of carrying ex plosives.
“We have recovered five such fireworks from Sharma. He was accompanied by two other women who were allowed to leave as they were not involved. We have booked Sharma for negligence and carrying combustible matter,“ said Harni police sub inspector P C Patel.
The police said that Sharma is an event manager and organizes several shows and weddings. Sharma and the other two women came after performing at a wedding in Navsari. He told the police that the fireworks were kept by mistake and was unaware of the con sequences.
The city bomb disposal squad was called to the spot to inspect the fireworks.The squad stated that the fireworks was a low impact explosive that is usually used during festive occasions.
“These kind of fireworks are categorized as low explosives as they are not life threatening. They run on a nine volt battery and are used mainly for stage shows and wedding programs. These items are banned inside the aircraft and should not be brought to the airport,“ said assistant sub inspector of bomb disposal squad Kishore Panth.
The city police and the bomb squad spent nearly three hours at the airport inspecting the vicinity and interrogating Sharma.
