Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter and Central Coast, Scot MacDonald, announced the start of works this week.
“Customers want clean and modern stations, and over the last three years they’ve noticed we’re making the effort with customer satisfaction for station cleanliness across the network going from 74 to 86 percentage points,” Mr MacDonald said.
“Work being carried out at Wyee station includes installing brighter, energy-efficient lighting, painting and deep cleaning.
“We’ll also be upgrading basic facilities that the customers rely on every day, including seating and bins. There will be improvements to the toilet, with new tiling and paint work.”
Other refresh work to be completed at Wyee includes:
- improving gardens and cutting back trees;
- installing new gutters; and
- repairing rails on the pedestrian footbridge.
Work will be completed by June next year.
Mr MacDonald said the station’s heritage value would be respected during the work.
Member for Lake Macquarie, Greg Piper, welcomed the makeover.
“I am always happy to see funding being delivered for Lake Macquarie, and as Lake Macquarie grows, Wyee station will become more and more important to the community,” Mr Piper said.
Eighty-seven stations have been refreshed since the launch of the program in 2013, and 26 are slated for works this year.
