KOLKATA: After attending the Jamiat-Ulema-e-Hind rally in Kolkata on November 26, chief minister Mamata Banerjee is also likely to attend a public rally in Furfura Sharif on December 18 -Minorities Rights Day -to reach out to a potentially key electorate ahead of the 2016 assembly polls in Bengal.
Facing a simmering disquiet for “doing little“ for the community, the chief minister may use this opportunity , again, to showcase her intent and earn a public pat from Muslim religious leaders, in this case Peerzada Toha Siddiqui, an off-and-on ally .
Toha said, “We are organizing a programme by the Furfura Sharif Mujaddea Anath Foundation on December 18. We have invited chief minister Mamata Banerjee and RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav to attend it.The CM has already given us her consent.“
The chief minister's Furfura Sharif visit comes four years after she made several promises in this Muslim pilgrimage site.
