PUNE: Additional director general (prisons) Bhushankumar Upadhyay has decided to grant remission in the imprisonment period to those inmates who clear the practical as well as written Yoga examination.
Upadhyay has himself started giving information about Yoga to inmates in Yerawada prison. "From January next year, we will start conducting practical Yoga sessions with inmates in all state prisons," Upadhyay told TOI.
The senior official said that trainers from a Lonavla-based organisation will teach the inmates Yoga. "The trained inmates can then help spread the knowledge in other prisons in the state. The training will commence from January next year," Upadhyay said.
He said that prison authorities would evaluate inmates' knowledge about Yoga as well as their performance. "We will fix their remission period on the basis of their evaluation," Upadhyay stated.
