MADURAI: Sleuths of the Organized Crime Intelligence Unit (OCIU) on Sunday arrested notorious rowdy M Raja alias ‘Kattai’ Raja (35) who is an accused in several murder cases in
Tamil Nadu.
OCIU sleuths arrested Raja after following his activities closely for the last 15 days. On Sunday morning, even as police surrounded him, Raja tried to escape on a two-wheeler.
Police chased him and nabbed him.
Raja was heavily armed while he was arrested. Police seized a country made pistol, six rounds of bullets and a knife from him.
He was handed over to the Samayanallur police, who registered cases against him under the Arms Act. He was remanded in judicial custody.
Raja was involved in almost 13 murder cases in Chennai, Coimbatore and Thanjavur districts. He was a close associate of gangster Dindigul Pandi who was killed in a police encounter in 2010.
Raja was earlier arrested by the Coimbatore police in connection murder of one Somasundaram in 2011 and was detained under the Goondas Act.
