Railways Minister says Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan should not be held from contacting their voters

LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique has on Sunday said that the election code of conduct given by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is in a contradiction with the right to political freedom. “How can (Prime Minister) Nawaz Sharif or (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman) Imran Khan be told not to contact their voters for the election”, said Saad. He said that ECP shouldn’t make rules that can’t be followed, reported Dunya News.

Terming the ECP code of conduct as contradictory to the right of political freedom, Saad Rafique said that preventing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and Jamaat Islami (JI) head Sirajul Haq from leading a rally in Karachi was not appropriate. He said that ECP should revisit its code of conduct and not make laws that are bound to be violated.

Addressing the supporters on the occasion of PTI workers’ joining of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), Saad Rafique said that JI should be happy to have joined hands with a ‘liberal’ party. He said that JI must decide whether it is a right-wing party or liberal.

Saad rafique said that people come to rallies to enjoy the drama there but it doesn’t necessarily mean that they’d vote as well. He said that people vote only for those who work for development.
