CHANDIGARH: Strongly opposing the move of the BJP government to include remaining villages in the municipal corporation (MC), villagers of the city passed a resolution against the proposal in a 'Pendu Samagam' organized by Congress at Congress Bhawan in Sector 35 on Saturday.
"The government has to take approval from panches and sarpanches and fulfil all 10 conditions incorporated in the resolution passed in the general house meeting of the municipal corporation held in 2013 before taking such steps," the resolution read.

Elected representatives from all the 22 villages were present in the meeting which saw anger against the BJP government for taking decisions without their consent, ill-treating them and suppressing their voices. Former union minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, Mohali MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu and Congress leader Pardeep Chhabra among others were present.
Bansal, in his address, attacked the Narendra Modi government for its alleged anti-farmer and anti-poor policies. He said the Congress would fight against the injustice being meted out by the BJP government to them. Sidhu said the then Congress government in Punjab had raised the compensation for land acquisition. Chandigarh Congress president Pardeep Chhabra said the BJP always ignored villages.
