Idol recovered from sea in Rameswaran

November 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - RAMESWARAM:

A wooden sculpture of a female deity washed ashore near Thangachimadam in the island was recovered by the local people and it is being worshipped.

Police said the sculpture in sitting posture on a pedestal resembled Goddess Kali, according to the locals. The right hand of the idol is damaged. People living in the area recovered the sculpture and installed it at a disused temple after a special puja. Police said they had been offering worship since Friday.

As the sculpture had no antique value, the revenue officials allowed the local people to keep the sculpture, police said.
