Discrepancies in poll rolls: DMK

November 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - SALEM:

The Salem Central district DMK unit has alleged discrepancies in the preparation of poll rolls in the four Assembly constituencies of Salem North, Salem South, Salem West and Omalur.

According to R. Rajendran, unit secretary, the draft poll rolls of the district was released on September 15. The application forms submitted by the DMK during the special voters’ enrolment campaigns were not considered.

The DMK submitted a petition to the Collector on September 28 complaining against the failure of the authorities to consider the applications of about 5,000 people submitted by the DMK and also about other discrepancies.

He alleged that a large number of new voters had been enrolled in the voters list in all the 60 wards of Salem Corporation based on the certificates for residential proof provided by the ruling party councillors in violation of rules. The certificates are to be provided by the VAOs and Revenue Inspectors alone. However, the same given by AIADMK councillors have been accepted by the authorities. As such, more than 500 bogus voters had been included in the poll rolls in each and every ward.

Mr. Rajendran said that the DMK submitted a complaint with adequate proof to the authorities in this regard. The names of all the bogus voters should be removed from the poll rolls immediately. The district authorities should ensure the release of fool-proof poll rolls before the elections.

Earlier, Mr. Rajendran presented a petition in this regard to Tamilrajan, PA (General) to Collector on Friday.
