Poldark star Aidan Turner confirms split with Irish actress Sarah Greene after 5 years

In an interview with The Telegraph, the 32 year old actor revealed the split with actress star Sarah was recent.

Notoriously private about their relationship, he did not address the split directly but said, "I like to keep my private life private for my own head.

"It’s important to me that people don’t know too much about me because I’m trying to play characters. Sometimes you see actors who are really good, but you have trouble separating that actor from the celebrity profile. I don’t want to be one of those guys. It helps that people don’t know a lot about me, I guess.”

Aidan and Sarah met at the Gaiety School of Acting and had known each other for 10 years, with the first two years of their relationship conducted long-distance.

At that point Aidan was based in New Zealand filming The Hobbit and Sarah was making a name for herself on the theatre scene in Ireland.

She has since landed a Tony nomination for her turn in The Cripple of Inishmaan as well as roles in Vikings and Penny Dreadful.

"It was tough. But we knew straight away that we were going to make it work," Aidan said in June this year.

"And it was always worth it. That was a question we asked each other: Is it worth it all the time? And it always was, and it still very much is. If we got through that, we can get through anything."

Rumours of an engagement circulated after Christmas although Sarah denied they had wedding plans.
