“We demand that the accused gets strict punishment. He has made our lives miserable. He is from a wealthy family and we fear that he will use money to soften the case against him,” the mother said.

On Friday morning, the police handed over the body of the girl to her family.

“He had been pestering her for a long time. We even sent her to my brother’s place in Mainpuri to put an end to it. Now that she is dead, we are repenting for not having complained to the police about him,” the mother saidsaid.

The accused was produced at the juvenile justice board and his statement was recorded. He was later sent to a juvenile home.

“The case is under investigation. The mother of the victim is the key witness. Her statement has not yet been recorded as she went to Mainpuri to perform the last rites. The post-mortem report of the girl confirmed death due to excessive internal bleeding caused by multiple fractures,” said Pankaj Pant, in-charge, Phase 3 police station.

The police said they will visit the spot to recreate the scene after the statement of the mother is recorded.
