NEW DELHI: Left parties today accused ruling BJP of "kowtowing" to the diktats of international finance capital and also hit out at the major NDA constituent, saying it is "totally devoid" of anti-imperialist content of national struggle for freedom as it never participated in it.

The parties alleged that divisive and anti-democratic policies pursued by BJP are ones which "suit" the interests of international finance capital, and asserted the fight against economic exploitation should be combined with struggle against all types of authoritarian forces, which too help imperialists.

"In India today, we have a situation, where, the ruling classes, now represented by BJP in power, are kowtowing to the dictates of international finance capital. Since they never participated in the national struggle for freedom, they are totally devoid of its anti-imperialist content," CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury alleged.

Yechury made the remarks here during the inaugural session of a two-day seminar 'Alternative to Global Capitalist Offensive: Asia's Response' organised by CPI as part of its events lined up to celebrate 90th year of its foundation.

The seminar was attended by CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy, party veteran A B Bardhan, national secretaries D Raja, Amarjeet Kaur and Shameem Faizee, besides Left leaders from countries like China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Yechury observed a link between alleged divisive, authoritarian and anti-democratic approach adopted by the BJP and international finance capital's "aggressive" pursuit of neo-liberal economic policies, saying the former is aimed at curtailing dissent to the latter.

"In fact, religious fundamentalists forces of whatever hue, pursue the same policies and despite their rhetoric help furthering the interests of imperialism and finance capital," he said.

Reddy echoed similar views stating situation has become "much more grave" after rightist combination assumed power and charged BJP of trying to "sell" national assets and key sectors of economy to multi-national private players by permitting FDI.

"It (BJP) is out to sell remaining national assets, handing over key sectors of economy to MNCs by allowing FDI in various sectors. The economy is in shambles. People are suffering by growing unemployment and inflation," he said, adding public is in search of alternatives.

The parties maintained their fights against economic exploitation allegedly unleashed by the ruling classes should be combined with struggle against "all sorts of divisive, sectarian and authoritarian forces".

"Our project for an alternative, should not only suggest an alternative set of economic policies, but also actively promote an alternative set of social, political and cultural policies.

"It is upon us the Left forces to creatively apply the science of Marxism-Leninism, 'concretely analyse the concrete conditions' in our respective countries and mobilise the people in struggles for a better world," Yechury added.

Bardhan, on the occasion, underscored Asia's response to the alleged global capitalist offensive as "crucial" and in that process, added, "wisdom", the communists accumulated through their struggles will have its own significance.
