Poole park-and-ride cancelled after 'unauthorised camp' at site

A Christmas park-and-ride service has been cancelled after an unauthorised traveller camp was set up at the site.

People gained access to the Creekmoor park and ride after a horse fair in the area was cancelled, Borough of Poole and Dorset Police said.

In a joint statement they said "an unauthorised encampment" had "gained access to the site following a breach in site security arrangements."

It is hoped service will now begin on Saturday 5 December.

The park and ride is due to operate for the following two Saturdays up until Christmas.

The statement continued: "Whilst Borough of Poole and Dorset Police were previously aware that a horse drive was arranged to take place in Poole this weekend, the event organiser had confirmed that this event was now cancelled.

"We will be monitoring the situation over the weekend as public safety is a key concern."

Travellers gained access to the Creekmoor site in August 2014.
