HYDERABAD: One thought it was curtains for Ananya in Telugu films when the much hyped Intinti Annamaiyya in which she played the lead heroine got stuck in the cans. She even worked with Krishnudu in Amayakudu in 2008 and her dubbed release Engeyyum Eppothum with Sharwanand got her notice from filmmakers.
Now she is back in Trivikram Srinivas’s movie A..A a playing Srinivas Avasarala’s love interest.
She says, “ Intinti … was a good banner and with Raghavendra Rao at the helm you couldn’t have asked for more. I had a lot of expectations from it and was terribly upset when it didn’t release, it was a music-based story.
I played a dancer and singer and all the songs were composed by Keeravani.
I worked so hard on it, especially the lip synch.
The director would explain the meaning of each song. After that I heard a lot of Telugu scripts but none were interesting.”
The Telugu-film journey Named Ayilya and rechristened as Ananya for films, she expected to get a lot of offers after Engeyum Eppodhum ( Journey ) became a hit even in Telugu.
She cites reasons for not getting: “The general impression was that I am a girl next door, so roles that came to me were the same homely types. When I first heard the story of Trivikram's film,
I said an immediate no as here once you do a sister’s role you get branded and get similar offers.
But when I heard the story I felt there was nothing wrong in it and went ahead and agreed. paavam
An artiste should take up challenging work.
In Malayalam films, I even did characters with negative shades.”
Ananya’s entry into films wasn’t planned. Her first film was from her father’s banner; she was a child artiste then and was introduced as a heroine only in 2008.
Not happy with career She signs off in a dissatisfied tone, “I am not completely satisfied with my career.
I did do a couple of good films like Nadodigal and Seedan with Dhanush, Engeyum Eppothum and a couple of films with Mohan Lal.
I also worked with Dileep and Prithviraj.”
But on a determined note, Ananya says, “for me quality matters, not quantity.
Even if I take up one or two films in three years it should stay on people’s mind.”
