Director General of Police (DGP) J.V. Ramudu on Saturday said the Katari couple murder case would be probed "from all angles", and all possible options will be reviewed to apprehend the prime accused, Chandrasekhar alias Chintu (relative of the Katari couple).

>Chittoor Mayor Katari Anuradha and her husband Katari Mohan (both of the ruling TDP) were murdered at the former's chamber by a five-member burqa-clad assailants on November 17.

Speaking to the media at R&B Guest House, after a three-hour long in-camera meeting with police officials, Mr. Ramudu said that the probe would also study >whether Chintu was involved in red sanders smuggling . He ruled out the possibility of CID taking over the case.

The official maintained that the chances of Chintu using fake passport to cross into other countries were also potential, as his passport was seized by the police. "In such a case, using a fake passport will amount to another serious crime by the accused," he said.

Referring to a report in a Telugu daily on Saturday, which published a letter said to be from Chintu, saying that he feared for his life from the police personnel and that he suspected an encounter by the police, the DGP showed signs of irritation, saying: "The police are here for public protection and not to kill."

The letter, said to have been addressed to the daily by Chintu, said that he was innocent and was ready to surrender if protection is given to him.

The DGP said that the letter would be subjected to proper tests by handwriting experts, before coming to a conclusion.
