Boy, 13, admits to abusing young girls
Judge Seán Ó Donnabháin remanded the teenager, who is now 17, in detention to Oberstown centre for juvenile offenders until December 18.
“This is a very serious matter,” the judge said, adding that he would remand the accused in detention while further enquiries were made in relation to his psychological background.
“The psychologist says he is a low risk of reoffending,” Judge Ó Donnabháin said. “I have serious doubts about how he could come to that conclusion. I know he has a graph, which is very reassuring for the psychoanalyst.”
The local detective who investigated the case gave detailed evidence of a graphic and disturbing nature.
The matter came to light in April 2014 when one of the victims, aged three and a half, was having her nappy changed by her father. She told him that, while the accused was babysitting her, he took off her nappy and licked her bottom. She also said the defendant “put his bottom in my bottom”. The girl’s father asked her to repeat what she had said and she did. She was later interviewed by a specialist Garda interviewer and said the same thing again.
Questioned about the matter, the defendant made full and frank admissions and described in detail to gardaí what he had done.
He later made similar admissions in respect of a second girl he had sexually assaulted when she was aged between 5 and 6. This girl had told her parents the accused had “put his willy in my bottom”.
The second girl told her parents, and later gardaí, that she and the teen used to go online when he was babysitting. She said he searched weird things on the internet and they looked at pictures. She said the teen would do things to her that other people were doing to each other in the online pictures, even though she did not know what they were doing.
“It was really weird,” the girl said. “It was hard to explain. [The accused] was trying to do those things on the internet, trying to make babies, that is what he was trying to do. He wanted to have sex when I wanted to play Lego. I kept asking could we play Lego and he said no.
“He went on the websites all the time. He would get angry if I did not do the same thing to him. I would keep asking to play Lego.”
The defendant not only admitted everything the girls said but gave gardaí more information on his behaviour with them. He said he would put his penis between the second girl’s legs, but not penetrating her, and he would ejaculate.
The investigating detective said the teenager came from a respectable family.
