Online sex scandal: AIDS used as weapon to trap girls

Joshy said that he met Pasupalan for the first time in police custody
KOCHI: The online sex scandal in Kerala involving trafficking of women and children has turned murkier with the police claiming that the kingpin of the racket had deployed AIDS-infected persons to keep women trapped.
Sources close to the investigating team said that Anoop, a close associate of prime accused Joshy alias Achayan, told the probe team that Joshy would make the girls, who were trying to escape from his trap, to have sex with his driver, an AIDS patient.
He would then blackmail the victims and ensure that they stayed with him. Joshy has also tried to implicate some youths, who have tried to escape from the gang, in drug trafficking cases with the connivance of some police officials.
Anoop, an employee of a private bank and an expert in operating computers, has given the technical back up for the racket. Sources said that the police may consider him as an approver in the case.
The police brought Joshy, arrested from Alappuzha two days ago, to Kochi for collecting evidence on Friday and then took him to Alappuzha.
Joshy told reporters in Alappuzha that he had no connection with the online sex scandal and feigned ignorance about Rahul Pasupalan, also arrested in connection with the scandal.
Joshy said that he met Pasupalan for the first time in police custody. According to the investigation team, Joshy has been a key operator of the sex trade in Kerala for the past 10 years. He was an accused in the Varapuzha and Paravur sex racket cases involving minor girls.
