Vendor ends life citing ungrateful borrowers

A 30-year-old vegetable vendor committed suicide at his house in Chandra Layout on Friday after his friends refused to repay money they had borrowed from him. The deceased, Manjunath, was a vegetable vendor. He leaves behind his wife and three-year-old son.

On Thursday, after his wife and son left for their village in Tamil Nadu, Manjunath hanged himself from the ceiling. He left a note stating that he had given a loan of Rs. 5 lakh to his friends Murugan, Raghupathy and Muthurajan. The trio not only refused to return the money, but also humiliated him, he alleged. The Chandra Layout police arrested the trio on charges of abetment of suicide.

Painter ends life

In another incident, a 33-year-old painter was found hanging at his residence in Kavalasandra in RT Nagar on Friday. The deceased, Raja, is survived by his wife and two children. The death came to light around 5 a.m. when the landlord saw the body hanging outside while Raja’s wife and children were asleep inside the house.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Raja had developed back pain after falling from a building. He had been advised physiotherapy and had enrolled in a gymnasium. A police officer said, “On Friday too, Raja left home for the gym. But the landlord noticed the body and alerted us.”
