Pansare murder: Cops fear for suspect's security

KOLHAPUR: Police officials have written to Kalamba Central jail authorities to increase the security of Sameer Gaikwad, the lone suspect held for the murder of rationalist Govind Pansare.
The move comes after a video of jail inmates making merry went viral early this week. According to police sources, officials are worried about security arrangements made for Gaikwad and wrote to jail authorities asking them to cautious.
When contacted, a Kalamba Central jail official said jail authorities have not yet received any letter, however, they are keeping vigil on all prison inmates, including Gaikwad.
"We are taking special care of Gaikwad. The security around him has been adequate since the day he was lodged in the jail. Even so, security arrangements have been updated after the recent incident and we are keeping an eye on every inmate," said the official.
In the video that recently went viral, five jail inmates can be seen cooking food, eating dry fruits and allegedly smoking marijuana in jail.
