“My son is a graduate and is the most eligible bachelor in my locality, but he has been rejected for marriage two days ago. The girl's family from Gurgaon cited lack of drinking water supply as the reason,” says said Aneesa Begum (50) of Mewat.

She was one among thousands of residents of Singar village who protested today, demanding resolution of water shortage which has plagued the area for three decades.

The villagers, who raised slogans and submitted a memorandum to the authorities, gave an ultimatum to resolve the matter by December 3. They have threatened to protest during Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's forthcoming visit to Mewat.

"We are a village of 25,000 people who live in 12 localities. Clean drinking water is the basic need of any human being. For us, it’s a distant dream and a luxury. Be it any party or any government, we are a vote bank for them. We have spent our lives seeing our women going distances to fetch water and now with changing times we buy water from overpriced tankers. We know that is unhygenic and many a times we have fallen ill but cant do anything. But now our children want their due they want this basic human right," said a resident sahab Khan Patwari.

“We are not ready to give any more time to authorites either we get water by December 3 or its blag flags which will welcome CM khattar who is coming her on December 3,” added another resident Chowdhary Farukh. It may be noted that villagers have been meeting DC, XEN, MLA and MPs in this regard.
