Day-night Test: Mitchell Starc ruled out due to stress fracture in right foot on Day 1

New Delhi: In a major blow to Australian cricket team, speedster Mitchell Starc was on Friday ruled out of the remaining part of historic day-night Test against New Zealand.

Starc experienced a pain in his ninth over, which looked like his ankle had got back to trouble him again. He walked off the field on the first day and scans done later on in the hospital revealed that the 25-year-old suffered an early stage stress fracture in the right foot.

The injury has come as a huge blow for the Steve Smith-led side, who are looking to seal the series at the Adelaide Test.

Starc's injury will further weaken Australia's pace bowling attack after Mitchell Johnson announced retirement from international cricket after the Perth Test.

Before the injury struck him, Starc had dismissed three Kiwi batsmen on a day where the Aussies pacers dismantled the New Zealand batsmen before bundling them out for 202.
