The 15th edition of the HKTDC World SME Expo and the inaugural Hong Kong International Franchising Show will open on 3 December and continue through 5 December at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).

Almost 440 exhibitors from 33 countries and regions will showcase a range of business opportunities and support services to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) succeed, informed a press release on Friday.

Making its debut this year, the Hong Kong International Franchising Show will feature three themed areas, namely, Catering, Non-Catering and International Zone, with some 100 brands offering an array of franchising opportunities in such sectors as catering, retail, education, and fitness and beauty.

A series of forums, workshops and business-matching meetings will be organised to explore new opportunities.

China's Belt and Road Initiative is another key theme of the World SME Expo, with more than 150 exhibitors from 20 countries and regions along the Belt and Road route including India, Indonesia, Vietnam and the UAE taking part.

Meanwhile, the new Belt and Road Forum gathers experts from Hong Kong, India, Indonesia and the UAE to share insights on emerging business opportunities for SMEs under the Initiative as well as Hong Kong's role in facilitating business among Belt and Road economies.

The expo also sees the return of the Opportunities Hall and the Solutions Hall. The inaugural "E-tailing zone" provides SMEs with e-tailing and online trading solutions. More than 30 seminars and forums will be organised for industry leaders and experts from the region to share insights on topics ranging from e-tailing to mobile commerce and global opportunities.

At the "New Opportunities of Cross-border E-commerce in China" seminar to be held on the first day of the expo, the HKTDC will sign a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Suning Commerce Group to launch an HKTDC Design Gallery e-shop on the Suning.com shopping platform, in order to increase the reach and popularity of Hong Kong brands on the Chinese mainland through cross-border e-commerce channels.

Alongside World SME Expo, the Business of Intellectual Property Asia (BIP Asia) Forum will run 3-4 December while the HKTDC InnoDesignTech Expo (IDT Expo) will runs 3-5 December. These parallel events will provide one-stop value-added services and solutions for SMEs.
