Thirteen-year-old Kelera Raliku shed tears of joy when she received the dux award during the St Marcellin’s Primary School prizegiving yesterday.

Kelera, is brought up by her single mother, Ateca Biaunivalu.

She cried because her mother struggled a lot to send her to school.

“We faced a lot of struggles and today is a sad and special day for me because my mother had worked so hard to send me to school. I am so happy that I am able to make her smile today,” Kelera said.

“She she made a lot of sacrifices for me.”

Kelera, of Year Eight, is also the headgirl. She also scored the highest marks in English.

Kelera wants to join Saint Joseph’s Secondary School next year.
