Constitution Day celebrated across State

November 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - ADILABAD:

Adilabad Collector M. Jagan Mohan on Thursday called upon all the concerned to carry on the torch lit by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He said adoption of the Constitution drafted under the chairmanship of the illustrious leader has helped Dalits access various government welfare programmes even in this day.

Garlanding the statue and portrait of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar at the Social Welfare office complex here in connection with the Constitution Day celebrations, the Collector said the Indian government had accepted the Constitution on November 26, 1949. This is why the day is celebrated as the Constitution Day, he added.

Special Correspondent adds: The district administration celebrated Constitution Day on Thursday at the Collectorate in which DRO Veerabrahmaiah and others participated and paid floral tributes to the portrait of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

On the occasion, the DRO said the Constitution had provided freedom and rights to people. Meanwhile, the students of Bhagavathi High School in the town also celebrated the Constitution Day.

Special Correspondent adds: Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Akademi welcomed the Centre’s decision to observe Constitution Day on November 26.

Celebrating the occasion, Akademi district president Manubotula Jitender said the Constitution offered special provisions to SC/ST and BCs which were weapons in their hands. The State and Central governments should recognise the rights of the downtrodden and protect the same.

Mr. Jitender called upon the youth to strive to protect and preserve the spirit of the Constitution and perpetuate the ideals, life and works of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. “The SC, ST and BCs are offered reservations in education and employment. Each community member should pursue studies and fulfil the dreams of Dr. Ambedkar in building an equal society,” he said, addressing the gathering at Kazipet. Floral tributes were paid to the statue of Dr. Ambedkar at Babu Camp Colony in Kazipet.
