The sensational murder of N. Suresh Babu alias ‘Pottu’ Suresh in Madurai on June 31, 2013, has been transferred to the Crime Branch CID.

Director-General of Police Ashok Kumar issued the orders on Thursday, police sources said.

The transfer of investigation to the CB-CID comes days after an attempt was made to murder Ramakrishnan alias Ramki, considered a close friend of Mr. Alagiri’s son Durai Dayanidhi, in Madurai.

Suresh, considered a close aide of former Union Minister M.K. Alagiri, was hacked to death by a gang when he was returning home from work. While the Madurai police arrested some suspects, a few others surrendered in the court.

The Madurai city police arrested the prime suspect P. Pandi alias ‘Attack’ Pandi from his hideout in Mumbai more than two years after the murder. Some of the accused persons were later released on bail.

Probe over

Madurai correspondent adds:

Commissioner of Police, Madurai, Shailesh Kumar Yadav said the city police had proposed to the DGP to transfer the case to the CB-CID.

“Investigation into the case has almost been completed.

All the accused have either been arrested by the city police or they surrendered during the course of the investigation.

However, it still required lot more labour to put things together for the purpose of prosecution,” he said.

Evidence on where the prime accused ‘Attack’ Pandi had been hiding for nearly two years, before he was arrested in September 2015, had to be collected.

Since he had travelled to several north Indian States, it would not be possible to spare the Investigating Officer (Inspector of Police, Subramaniyapuram police station) to collect evidence for this case alone for a longer period, he said.

Hence, the DGP accepted the proposal of the city police to transfer the case to CB-CID, he added.
