The crime branch on Thursday opposed bail plea of Patidar quota stir leader Hardik Patel, currently in jail facing sedition charges, and raised apprehension that he might resort to similar activities, if released.
The investigating officer (IO) of the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB), Ahmedabad, made a special request before the sessions court, stating, “Despite knowing that demand of reservation is not legal, he and his associates intensely took Patidar community on illegal path, beccame leaders of the community and tried to break the government.”
Inspector J S Gedam, who is IO of the sedition case, filed an affidavit before the sessions court and claimed that Hardik tried to spread anarchy in Gujarat through media.
He has stated that if Hardik is granted bail, he is likely to get indulged in similar activities. Following the submission of affidavit, the matter was adjourned till December 5.
The affidavit claimed Hardik and five other co-accused made several provocative appeals in order to spread anarchy in the state which led to large-scale violence. It stated that Hardik is convener of the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti and on his instance the co-accused acted, which resulted in violence.
On the other hand, Hardik sought bail on the grounds that “there is no material to show as to how the words spoken or written have created feeling of disharmony, enemy, hatred or ill-will.” His application claimed that, “…the FIR is nothing but ostentation of the state government”.
