THE BJP on Thursday advised Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, who is embroiled in controversy over his remarks on intolerance, to visit his ancestral village Akhtiyaarpur in Hardoi district and see for himself with how much love and harmony people live there.

In a recent interaction at the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism ceremony organised by The Indian Express, Aamir had said: “Kiran (wife) and I have lived all our life in India. For the first time, she said, should we move out of India… She fears for her child, she fears about what the atmosphere around us will be.”

Claiming that Aamir was influenced by his films, Shahnawaz Hussain said: “Whenever any film of his is released, he is very much in discussion… People of his village are searching for him. He should visit his village in UP where people are living in harmony following the Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb (a term used to describe mutual participatory co-existence of Hindu and Muslim cultures).”

Aamir left the village at an early age and joined Bollywood, but people there still believe in ‘Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb’, said the BJP leader.

“There are more Muslims in UP than in Iraq and Syria… The Muslim population in India is more than the Arab states. Aamir is not living in fear but is scaring others through his statement,” said Hussain.

Festive offer

He added that the actor has given a good statement that he was proud of India.

“But India is not such that even a thought should crop up in his mind that he should leave the country. He should not harbour such a thought… There is no fear…”

Hussain said those who will respect the Constitution, would also love the country. “Prophet Muhammad ko bhi Hindustan se thandi hawa ka ehsaas hota tha,” he added.
