Patna Rajdhani Express escapes mishap in Kaushambi

According to a statement issued by the Chief Spokesperson for North Central Railway Zone, the incident occurred around 1.19 am when the train was passing by Kanwar station.

Passengers of the New Delhi-bound Patna Rajdhani Express (12309) had a narrow escape Thursday when its engine and some bogies brushed through a damaged rail post supporting a foot over bridge at Kanwar, a small station in Kaushambi district. A probe has been ordered into the incident.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Spokesperson for North Central Railway Zone, the incident occurred around 1.19 am when the train was passing by Kanwar station.

“The engine hit a rail post, which brushed past some bogies. The train was immediately stopped and allowed to move forward after an initial inspection around 2.23 am. Nearly an hour later, at 3.16 am, when the train reached the Khaga railway station, its engine was changed. The train resumed for its onward journey at 4.35 am. There is no information of anybody getting injured in the incident. The traffic was being diverted through the loop line at Kanwar station. A committee comprising engineers from traffic, wagon and other departments has been formed to inquire into the incident,” the statement read.

The Railway said that the rail posts are fitted to support the foot over bridges. “It is possible an open door of a goods train damaged and twisted the rail post, which brought it in contact with the Rajdhani Express. The foundation of the over bridge too was damaged,” the statement added.
